Leaving Santa Clara

After Robert and I set my camera up in the back of my car, we thought we would test it as we waved goodbye to Maples.

Well, no more Santa Clara until 2013! I packed up my entire room and I did it in record time! Thanks to Robert for coming down Friday for the photoshoot, then staying to help me pack. We both had a common goal in mind; we had to get to Sacramento in time to see Flip The Switch, The Secretions, and Chixdiggit play at the Boardwalk!

If you’ve seen Old Blue (my car), you have probably seen my Flip The Switch sticker on the back. They haven’t played in a really long time so it was great to finally see them again. They even snuck a chorus of “Call Me Maybe” into one of their songs. The venue wasn’t very full, but KJ from Chixdiggit described it well as feeling like a house party. The entire Chixdiggit set was made up of requests yelled out from the crowd. Not even a setlist.

Anyway, before we hit the road, Robert and I went to Chipotle (no surprise there), took a quick trip to the Sky Lounge in Swig, and I said goodbye to the yearbook office one more time. Finally, the bro’s down the street moved their beer pong table out of my car’s way one last time, and I said goodbye to Maples.

Just like last year, my iGoogle is completely full of blogs from all of my friends going abroad and it’s exciting to be part of that this year. I’m going to make it my goal to post a lot of photos and videos from all around Europe. I’m taking a photojournalism class so I have no excuse not to. Please feel free to Subscribe to my blog! And don’t forget to comment!

Video Notes: So, this is my first attempt at a time lapse video, which I took on my drive from Santa Clara to Sacramento. You can probably tell by the fact that it moved whenever I went on one of those big roundabout off/on ramps. I made this by propping the new D800 up in the back of the car and setting it to take a photo every 5 seconds. Then, after compiling the images in Adobe Premiere, adding some awesome filters, vignette, and music in Photoshop (yeah Photoshop does video!!) I had a pretty cool little video. Trust me, these will start to look better when I get my GoPro tomorrow.

  1. Way to get a bunch of product placements into your first post, Ryan! Chixdiggit, Flip the Switch, Chipotle, Nikon, Premiere, and Photoshop. The last two are the most important – I’ve got mouths to feed, as you know. Your colleagues at Adobe will be watching this space with an immeasurable degree of envy. Bon Voyage!

  2. Very good start – I just say it this morning for the first time – Sept. 11, 2012. Have a wonderful vacation and school. Book up those weekends they will be something that you can never repeat.
