Narada Michael Walden’s Enchanted Forest Symphony was a two night event at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California. The show was put on by the Oakland East Bay Symphony Orchestra and special guests included Carlos Santana, Cindy Blackman, Jeanie Tracie, and Tony Lindsay. The performance consisted of a musical piece composed by Narada Michael Walden himself. Though the crowd was there to see Carlos Santana, Narada Michael Waldon stole the spotlight both figuratively and literally. Carlos remained conservative and in the shadows while Narada was high on his throne and leading the tempo. It was the first concert I have ever been to where the drummer was lit better than the rest of the band.
End Notes: I photographed this concert with the Pentax K20d and the Sigma 70-200mm at f/2.8 and almost always at 200mm given my distance from the stage. This was an interesting concert because I was given permission to photograph, but I wasn’t given any sort of documentation, credentials or a place to photograph from. In an attempt to avoid having to prove my legitimacy, I decided to keep a pretty low profile and shoot from the crowd about 15 rows back.
