The Warped Tour came through Sacramento on August 12, 2010. The all day music festival featured dozens of bands on seven stages. There were so many photo opportunities I had to separate the photos into two sets. Here is the first set of images.
The Rocket Summer: The timing couldn’t have been more perfect when The Rocket Summer took the stage as the sun was just setting and the stage was filled with a golden light. Usually I try to shoot portraits during the “Golden Hour”, but I suppose it can work for live music as well. The Rocket Summer was another band that showed promise of making the main stage in the near future with frontman, Stephen Bryce Avary, rocking the keyboard and guitar from behind the mic.
Green Jello: If the Warped Tour had an award for most interesting looking band, Green Jello would win for sure. Every song featured a new band member in full costume. I’m not even going to try to describe it. The photos speak for themselves.
Mayday Parade: The Ernie Ball stage, which is really a trailer parked on a small piece of lawn, was rocking during Mayday Parade’s set with the crowd spilling out into every surrounding walkway. It was also the most crowded photo pit of the day (possibly with the exception of DKM).
iwrestledabearonce: Shortly after the band walked on stage they announced that their lead singer was sick and would not be able to perform. That didn’t stop them, though, and they insisted that the show would go on. They pulled up a new singer from the audience for each song and many of them admitted to not even knowing the lyrics. I guess it doesn’t matter too much when it’s all screaming.
The Pretty Reckless: Featuring television star, Taylor Momsen, on vocals and guitar, The Pretty Reckless were on one of the side stages, though they drew a crowd that could compete with many of the main stage crowds. They were the least photography friendly band of the day, but I think I managed to get some good shots despite having to shoot with the telephoto lens from the crowd
